With records dating back to 1827, the former Fazenda Goiabal is now run by the fourth generation of the Erthal family. Monthal brings together coffee production, rural hospitality and education, periodically opening its doors to show the bean’s journey—from harvest to roasting and the cup.

After turning 65, Vicente de Paulo Pereira drew on his business experience in mining to fulfil his dream of returning to the countryside. Together with Martha Velloso Pereira, he found a small property in Santo Antônio do Amparo with fertile soil and a promising terroir for specialty coffee.

In 2016, the couple and their children opened a coffee shop and roastery in central Rio, establishing a family succession plan. In 2021, a new dry-milling facility completed their fully vertically integrated operation, from farm to cup, which also provides services to other farms.
